I am 23 years old and I have a 3yr old Daughter. I am 31 weeks pregnant with my second child, another girl. My life consists of working a fulltime job (out of town) and my daughter. It's hard on me trying to care for one child and now I'm about to have another. It's not like I just go out and have babies. I was once engaged to this second child's father until he couldn't decide whether or not to choose me or the woman he started sleeping around with. Now I'm single and have no help. With rent, utilities, necessities, my 1994 car which is my only means of transportation, my daughter's monthly daycare fees and food, I am on the end. I try and I get by. My job only pays so much and the reason for working out of town is that the city in which I live, experienced a destructive tornado for the first time ever. There are really no jobs available. Gas uses up the money that I could have. I'm a few months shy of my one year anniversary at my job and therefore will not be paid for my maternity leave. How am I going to be able to pay my bills, keep my daughter in daycare, care for a newborn, and buy food for my house for these 8 weeks that I'll be out of work? My local Dept of Family and Children Services state that I make too much money at my job. What is $9.25 after paying for gas and all other necessary bills???? Gas alone is about 180 every two weeks for me. After taxes, I have to decide who can hold off and who needs to be paid. I don't live out of my means nor do I own the fine things in life, but I'm trying to just make it. Sometimes I just sit at home and cry. I haven't been able to finish school and get my degree in architectural drafting or nurse practictioning. If I could just do that, My kids and I would be okay. But I have no help. I wish someone out there could help.
